Pablo

2019 - 2021

Pablo caught my eye on my local shelter’s website and after a month of visiting the page and seeing him still on there, I went and got him. He was a depressed middle aged rat who was just surrendered after his cage mate had passed away.

Pablo and I spent months of trust training and he taught me patience and we helped each other feel love as we bonded over snacks, play time, and listening to his favorite song “Love Like This” by Ben Rector together. He would always boggle his eyes to that song! He also had two new cagemates who loved him dearly and accepted him as their pack leader.

Paby was given help to cross the rainbow bridge from our vet after a fight with pneumonia due to a chronic respiratory infection that was no longer controllable with medicines. My friend told me he waited the day out for me to be there with him and I felt him take his last breath while I gave him a kiss on the head.

Pablo was fierce, smart, and so resilient. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to give him his forever home, and that he let me love him (and to my surprise, he loved me right back in his own little Paby way). Rest In Peace my sweet pumpkin butt. ❤️
