Scooby

Missed By: Steve

Scooby is with his brother and sister now

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze,"
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

On my doorstep

I already had 2 dogs, Champagne the female Shepherd and Max, the big Rottie a friend and I found walking on the highway late one hot summer night. Both were in my yard when this cute black puppy just showed up on the other side of the fence to chat with Max and Champagne. He continued to show up for many days. He had no collar, but I thought he might be a neighbors, but after many days, I finally let him in the yard and fed him. I then went around the neighborhood looking for an owner, even passing out flyers. I called the shelters. No one looking for him. I called him No Name at first as I had no intention on keeping him. So I looked to find him a home, but I was not satisfied with the people coming to see him and he just got along so well with Max and Champagne and grew on me. I changed my mind, and this cute little black pup became my Scooby.

Champagne passed 1st a few years later, then Max, so for the last 9 years, it's just been Scooby.

It was difficult seeing Scooby's legs failing, and it just became more and more difficult for him to walk or stand. I carried him in and out as needed and he was still alert right up to the last few days when he just had enough and was giving me that look. We pet lovers all know that look. It was time and he wanted to rest.

I'll miss him dearly.
