Midge
2008 - 2024
Midge, a beloved and resilient canine companion, passed away on August 23, 2024, at the age of 16. Born around January 9, 2008, Midge lived a full and vibrant life, overcoming challenges including blindness in her left eye and a heart murmur, and in later years corneal calcific degeneration with mid stromal facet in her right eye, arthritis, Cushing’s disease, and canine cognitive dysfunction.
In February 2019, at age 11, Midge was rescued in Tupelo, Mississippi, and transported to Canine Commitment of New England. She was invited into the care of her compassionate foster mother Melissa Thomson. From there, Midge was adopted by her adoring parents Josh and Anna Coleman in August 8, 2019. Josh and Anna fell in love with Midge’s posting in February of that year but were not yet living in New Hampshire. The moment they set their roots, Midge was immediately welcomed into the family.
Midge, a remarkable super mutt (with a blend of chihuahua, Australian shepherd, rat terrier, shih tzu, chow chow, American Eskimo, and collie), quickly became an inseparable part of their family. Known for her wonderfully stubborn personality and resiliency, Midge thrived under their care and was honored as Student of the Year at You and Your Dog Training in 2023 (despite being expelled from “obedience school” in 2019. Suck it, PetCo). Some of Midge’s favorite things in life were breakfast with her grandparents, visiting her Auntie Sarah and (dog) cousin Olivia, cuddling with her stuffed fox & bunny, finding treats in her snuffle mat book, judging people from a distance, blueberry Greenies, any sort of meat (especially steak), taking walks slow enough for her to smell every flower and every blade of grass, car rides, and vacations with her parents.
Midge's final day was filled with joy as she engaged in her favorite activities: a visit to her Grammy, nose work at her training facility, and a leisurely walk at the New Boston Fairgrounds. Her presence brought immense love and laughter to those around her, and her memory will be cherished deeply.
Midge will be dearly missed by her devoted family. Her legacy of strength, spirit, and love will continue to inspire and comfort those whose lives she touched.
Rest in peace, Midge. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
