SOPHIE

2005 - 2020

In loving memory of my Sweet Little Sophie.
Sweet Sophie came to me eleven years ago. She was rescued from being a puppy mill mom. I went to help at a rescue event in New Jersey and Sophie was one of the dogs up for adoption. She was very scared – in fact – she never quite made it out of her shell and was very mistrusting of most humans.

I brought Bianca, Amy, and Madison to help at the adoption event and Sophie took to them like they were old buddies at a long-lost reunion. I decided then that I would bring her home with me, and so I did, and so began a very special bond between us.

Sophie was shy but playful. Loved to cuddle and loved nothing more than to go on walks, just the two of us – she was very fascinated yet startled by all the traffic, squirrels, and other dogs. She loved to smell the grass and loved the sun (but hated the water).

Sophie had two tumors that turned out to be cancerous. We decided not to operate because at her age she most likely would have not survived the anesthesia. Saturday afternoon, one of the tumors ruptured causing internal bleeding and damage to her organs. She also had a stroke that left her paralyzed and blind. I rushed her to the vet’s office, knowing full well that this would be the last time that I would hold her. She died peacefully (as peacefully and comfortably as we could manage). She died while I rubbed her belly and gave her kisses and whispered that daddy loved her so much, but it is time to go to heaven now and play with Lily, Madison, Bianca, Cheilie and all the other souls that I have loved in some way.

Knowing full well that this is the most difficult part of rescue and fostering dogs and cats. I am grateful that I was able to have spent eleven years with Sophie, I am thankful that I became her favorite human – she would do this dance when I got home – she would jump and go in circles. 😊
Sophie was and will continue to be loved by me. She has a piece of my heart that she took with her when she passed on. Rest now my little princess – there will never be monsters to hurt you ever again.
