Wilson

2017 - 2022

Wilson (formerly known as "Cookie") was not exempt from the challenges and hardships that life can bring. His first year and a half of life was stressful to say the least, living in small quarters with ten other guinea pigs and rabbits, all fighting one another for food and living space. After quarreling with a fellow cage mate, he mistakenly bit his 10 year old owner's finger as she tried to separate the animals. Because of this, the little girl's mother surrendered him to the Lowell Humane Society in Massachusetts, calling him "vicious" and "aggressive."

When his present owners, the Coleman Family, found him on PetFinder, they instantly fell in love, as his bio described him of loving "cheek and chin scritches." The Colemans drove from New York to Massachusetts to adopt their newest family member, only weeks before the Colemans were to be married (and actually become "The Colemans").

Wilson witnessed his humans get married, and even joined them in the celebration and travelled with them during their honeymoon. He faithfully stood by as his humans participated in the theatre, moved to New Hampshire, adopted his dog-sister Midge, supported his mother while she pursue her master's degree, and cheered on his man-human while he embarked on a new career path to becoming a firefighter. Wilson was a gracious and welcoming host when two female foster guinea pigs stayed at the Coleman household, and was a perfect gentleman when the family adopted the two sisters from Helping All Little Pipsqueaks.

Wilson enjoyed eating his Oxbox "cookies," mint leaves, falling asleep on the electric blanket, cuddling on his humans' shoulders, and flirting with peoples' mothers, being the total stud that he was. Though quite shy when he was first adopted, he quickly reveled in the safety of this home and basked in all the comfort life had to offer. At the start of COVID-19, Wilson even participated in Zoom conferences, and would tease his mother that he could take a nap and she could not. He was always the jokester.

In his final days, a large bladder stone was discovered with another one forming. His health quickly diminished, and the doctor discovered that Wilson was experiencing kidney failure. His condition quickly became very poor; his state would only be maintained in its' poor condition, and he would be too weak to survive the bladder stone surgery. Wilson was put to rest on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022. In his last moments, his mother and man-human reminisced and reminded him of how special he was; a daily conversation that was had anyway.

Wilson will be deeply missed. He is survived by his 2 one-year-old sisters, Winnifred and Mimi, and also his dog-sister Midge. His remains will be kept in his home in New Hampshire, to remind his family of his sweet memory and fierce zest for life.
